New Providence, NJ, July 20, 2016 – Inkubate, a privately held writing analytics and technology company, and Bowker, a ProQuest affiliate, have teamed to provide the new ScoreIt!™ application and title discovery platform at the Bowker® Identifier Services website and ecommerce store (www.myidentifiers.com). Authors who purchase International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) and other premium self-publishing services will have the ability to purchase and use ScoreIt!™ to run a comparative analysis of their manuscript against the writing styles of commercially published authors.
“This is an important new resource for our authors, who tell us that understanding how well they write is one of their biggest challenges,” said Beat Barblan, Director, Bowker Identifier Services. “Access to Inkubate’s ScoreIt!™ technology helps our community understand the nuances of their writing and how to best position it in the commercial marketplace.”
The ScoreIt!™ application functionality relies on the science of stylometry, a field of study related to how writers use language. ScoreIt!™ looks at tens of thousands of writing “patterns” to determine each writer’s unique authorial “fingerprint.” ScoreIt!™ then compares that fingerprint to a proprietary database of published titles by a wide variety of authors, across multiple genres with varying degrees of unit sales success in the marketplace.
Within each ScoreIt!™ result, a writer’s submitted manuscript receives a comparison rating against three similar, commercially published titles on four features: authorial vocabulary, expressive complexity, grammar, and tonal quality. In addition, authors learn more about similar titles, including genre classification, publisher of record, publishing date, unit sales data, and online links to Goodreads, helping them learn more about the writer and title history.
“We are delighted to be providing our technology services to the Bowker author community,” said Don Seitz, CEO of Inkubate. “Our teamwork with Bowker further validates the value of the ScoreIt!™ application and writing analytics.”
